Vilma opened the season on short-term injured reserve, then was moved to the Saints active-roster on Saturday, one day before New Orleans played the Jets. Vilma saw action on 12 plays against New York and made one tackle.

The Saints didn't specify the reason for putting Vilma on the IR, but it most likely has to do with his left knee. Vilma missed the 2013 preseason after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in August. It was Vilma's fourth operation on his the knee since November 2011.

The 12 snaps Vilma took against the Jets on Sunday could be his final ones in a Saints uniform. Vilma took a $3.8 million pay cut in his base salary before the 2013 season and that deal expires after this year.
